A Divine Expanse - 2013

A Divine Expanse ( Adyathmik Bodh  )
In these works, done at ITM camp in Vadodara, I have used the form of a snake, as a symbol in Hindu mythology, personified as God and its presence in the fantastical landscape I have created. The charisma of god is omnipresent in everything existing in this universe as in this area on my canvas.
My paintings portray the present occurring around me and my reflections of these occurrences. Also embedded are recollections from my past that appear from the nostalgia  brought about by my memories. An endeavor to suggest a subtle surrealistic feel or ‘an atmosphere’ on the canvas.

Painting - 2012

Dualities in Infinity

The painting depicts multiple aspects or facets of an object / situation / idea. There are no biases in the depiction of various forms, or questioning their being. Without being judgmental, I have attempted to demonstrate the human minds or instincts reacting to a particular situation/ entity. The dualities are not divided, but co-exist in excess. In my painting I have separately situated these ideas in boxes, which are infinite by themselves, thus uniting into a universal whole. The shelf represents threshold between the exterior and interior and other infinite polarities.

Narrative Suggestions - 2011 - 2012

My paintings portray the present occurring around me and my reflections of these occurrences. Also embedded are recollections from my past that appear from the nostalgia  brought about by my memories. They endeavor to suggest a subtle surrealistic feel or ‘an atmosphere’ on the canvas.

‘Exultation in Harmony’
I seek to describe the heightened ‘atmosphere of my feelings’ in conjunction with the various experiences, surroundings and music during my travels. Also to pin-point the gravity of the experience, I have used certain symbols from Hindu mythology, like the male buffalo signifying Yamraj, the God of death who is stalled by the enchantment of the music. The form of the eagle symbolizes a blind singer’s song, portrayed in the form of a pot that exuberates light and brightness in an almost sublime way.

‘Challenging the Calm’,
I attempt to delicately combine the comfort of what is familiar and comfortable with my suspicions of the new. The sunflowers reflect the vibrancy of the sun; the black cat contentedly placed avoiding any impediment and the dove, a signifier of peace. In contrast, the snake forms suggests a hint of concern and the stark red drapery which challenges the calm...

  'Discord in the Forest'
is a part of a series - 'narrative suggestions'. It speaks of the wave of urbanisation which is fast destructing and is creating insecurities as suggested by the various forms in the painting.
